The Dolphin Coast enjoys a warm sub-tropical climate for most part of the year.
The Dolphin Coast is one of South Africa's most popular and most beautiful holiday spots. In 1995 Ballito, Umhlali Beach, Shakaskraal and Tinley Manor joined together to form the Dolphin Coast local authority. The region got its name from the many schools of bottlenose dolphins which can be seen playing in the water almost every day of the year. A lot of money has been spent to develop this area and to conserve its natural beauty at the same time.
The Dolphin Coast Publicity Association is working hard to make your visit to this area as memorable as possible.
Ballito
Ballito, the heart of the Dolphin Coast, lies nestled between rippling fields of Natal's famous `green gold' and is flanked to the east by golden beaches and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. One of the best sights to observe is the dolphins leaping and surfing in the wild.
The dolphins like this stretch of coastline because of its relative clear and shallow water allowing the dolphins to swim close to the shore in order to feed.
The town, which reach borough status in 1986 is well known for its superb, safe beaches. For a small price of a license, you can pick your own mussels of the rocks, collect oysters or bring a fresh crayfish from the Indian Ocean, or go scuba diving.
Ballito's friendly village atmosphere is a welcome haven from the fast pace of big city life, yet it offers all the modern amenities and services to residents and holiday makers alike. |
